Long wait of the sugarcane farmers finally over; crushing season begins

This after it missed two deadlines.

Officials say that this is a trail and the official crushing season will start by Saturday with a lot of fanfare.

However, farmers say that for them the crushing has started as of Thursday.    

Sugarcane farmers held a protest at factory forcing an assurance from the authorities to that the factory would start on 5th of December.

But as the maintenance work could not be finished and there were pollution issues, the date was postponed to 8th December.

Sanjivanee officials had to go to Delhi to get the pollution control order revoked  and the final go ahead for the factory was given.
