CORONA: Ordinary & illegal masks seized

Markets are down due to corona virus. Some markets are simply minting money. Especially by selling masks and santisers. Even masks with no safety standards are being sold. On Tuesday, Legal Metrology department sized 806 such ordinary masks and 195 N95 masks across Goa for not meeting saftey standards.



Ordinary mask is regular surgical mask made out of cloth.


The N95 mask is a more specialized mask which is specially made to protect against the Corona virus. It is also called SARS-CoV-2.


Its respirator is thicker than ordinary surgical mask.


However, such masks were seized from various pharmacies for not bearing mandatory declaration as required under legal Metrology Act and Rules.


Raids were conducted in Panaji, Mapusa, Madgao, Vasco, Ponda, Bicholim & Kudchade.

In Bicholim one case was booked in which Inspector of Legal Metrology Nitin Purushan seized 5 N95 mask.


In Mapusa 3 cases were booked in which Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Gulam Gulburg seized whooping 485 ordinary mask and 11 N95 masks.


In Panaji one case was booked in which Inspector Legal Metrology Demu Mapari Inspector seized 33 ordinary masks.


In Margao one case was booked in which Inspector Legal Metrology Demu Mapari seized 190 N95 masks.


In Ponda 3 cases were booked in which Inspector Legal Metrology Sujan Rane seized 132 ordinary masks and 54 N95 masks.


In Curchorem 3 cases were booked in which Inspector Legal Metrology Vikas Kandolkar 153 ordinary masks.
