There is a need for a ban on import of fish till the government sets up a regulatory mechanism to check for formalin.

TCP minister Vijai Sardesai put forward this proposal publicly at Cuncolim on Sunday. But admitted that ultimately the chief minister has to decide and his health was not too good.

Vijai said that he would try to push it forward in the next 8 days, by there was a procedure to be followed.  Here’s more.

Formalin in fish has become a very sticky topic for the government. Especially in South Goa. There has been a lot of pressure on the government to ban the import of fish from outside.

And stop exports of fish from Goa, especially as the government gives subsidy to fishermen.
