‘Anandi Gopal’ makes waves in IFFI

A Marathi film Anandi Gopal made waves in this year’s IFFI. Anandi Gopalrao Joshi was the first Indian woman doctor. She was conferred with medicine degree on 11th March 1886 by American Medical College.

The couple decided to go for medical studies abroad after their child expired for having no proper medical facilities in then British India in the 19^th century.

That too when touring abroad was considered a sin. And also a woman going for higher studies.

The struggle of the couple is portrayed in a much different manner in this cinema than the usual TV soap operas.
