Dr Vikram Patel of Sangath bags Canadian Nobel

Dr Vikram Patel, a world renowned psychiatrist and co-founder of Goa-based NGO Sangath, has bagged the most prestigious John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award.



It is considered a Canadian Nobel.


Earlier in 2015, Dr Patel was listed as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by international magazine, Time.


Now, the Canadian organisation has honoured his work in the field of mental health.


Sangath is primarily dedicated to research in the areas of child development, adolescent health, and mental health.


The 55-year old researcher is also the former director of the Centre for Global Mental Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).


Since 2016, he is also the professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.


Dr Patel however is based in Goa.
