Cong CM Rane compromised Goa's interest on Mhadei issue: Nadkarni

Additional Solicitor General of India Atmaram Nadkarni has thrown a bombshell on the opposition Congress.

According to him, the former Congress chief minister Pratapsing Rane had given no objection letters to divert the water of Mhadei river to Maharashtra as well as Karnataka.

These letters could affect Goa severely.  But chief minister Manohar Parrikar's letter, in no way, would affect the Mhadei case.

This is the summary record of a meeting held between Goa and Maharashtra chief ministers at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai on 26th April 2006.

Rane was the chief minister of Goa. It says Goa has no objection to construct Virdi dam as a joint venture of Goa and Maharashtra.

And this is the letter Goa365 procured, written by then water resources secretary Rajiv Yaduvanshi to provide drinking water from Mhadei basin for Huballi and Dharwar.

Written on 10th January 2007. When again Rane was the chief minister. He informs the central water resources minister to go ahead with setting up a tribunal for Mhadei, but after deleting two paras - para 28(iv) and para 28 (v).

According to Nadkarni, both these paras relate to drinking water for Huballi and Dharwad.
