Fmr PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee dies at 93

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is no more. He was 93-year-old. India’s charismatic orator, a prolific poet and a freedom fighter marked an end of the era.



State mourning for seven days till 22 August has been declared by Central Government.

A State Funeral would be accorded to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Smriti Sthal, New Delhi.

The whole country will observe official mourning for seven days. He would be cremated on Friday at Vijay Ghat at 5 in the evening.    

Atalji was the BJP's tallest leader. He was confined to a wheelchair for the last nine years after he suffered a stroke and lost his speech and also his memory due to dementia. He was admitted to hospital on 11th June with a urinary tract infection and chest congestion and his condition had become critical since 15th August.

He died at 5.05 pm on Thursday.  

The mortal remains of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be kept at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Friday for last tributes.
