Mining resolution passes, now onus on Centre

The house unanimously passed the resolution that the Centre amend the Goa, Daman and Diu Mining Concessions (Abolition and Declaration as Mining Leases) Act, 1987 and the MMDR act so as to restart mining in the state.



The chief minister is slated to leave for Delhi by the 7th with the sense of the house. He promised a way out of the imbroglio that mining in the state is at present by September –October. 

MLA Nilesh Cabral moved resolution asked Centre to amend exisiting act. This will enable the current mining leases to remain operational upto 2037 and benefit of the 50- year tenures introduced retrospectively in 2015 to the mining concessions in Goa.

The resolution saw people from mining areas wait to enter the assembly. 

The opposition leader too supported the motion, but wanted the government to take care that mining companies do not sack workers.
