“All mining leases are scrapped, other than 88 mines can’t start with old leases”

“सगळीं लिजां रद्द, तेन्ना फकत 88 सोडून हेर लिजांनी मायनिंग सुरू जावंक शकना”

The one option which is being thought of to continue mining in Goa is to start mining on other leases than the 88 leases which are scrapped by the Supreme Court.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari said this during his recent visit to Goa.

But the environmentalists are saying that the court has scrapped all the leases. Not from now. From 2007.

Gadkari was in town early this week when he met most of the stakeholders and dependents of the mining industry.

The argument raised before him was that the Supreme Court has scrapped only 88 mining leases.

Then why not start other leases and continue mining in Goa? Gadkari did not promise to start.

He plans to take legal opinion on it.

But Goa Foundation as well as other environmentalists have vehemently opposed this thought.

They have pointed out that the recent Supreme Court order was issued because the old court order was not followed.

And the old order said that all the mining leases cease to exist from 2007.Thus they cannot be renewed.

Gadkari is only fooling the people of Goa. Listen to their arguments.
