:The fire at Sonsoddo is out. But the smoke still remains. But that should be controlled by late night, the South Goa Collector Ajit Roy told Goa 365. The MMC has ordered more than 50 trucks. Out of these 24 have already been utilised. But the work is still on.

Fire fighters battled to control the fire using more than 95,000 litres of water and 50 plus trucks of mud. Almost 50 fire personnel, 30 municipal workers, 2 shovels and 14 fire tenders struggled and finally succeeded in dousing the the blaze before finally succeeding. This Sonsoddo garbage dump issue is not new. It has been a eyesore and a health hazard across governments.

Earlier in the day Nitin Raikar, Fire Officer, South Goa spoke to Goa 365 giving details of the battle. Watch

It all began on Thursday as 44 year old Vaibhav Fakhpal, a survey worker managed to injure himself and light up the dump after one of his instruments touched a 33 kV high tension wire just above the heaped up garbage.
