The condition of the prevailing jetty at Karewado is in dilapidated condition, Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association president Jose Philip D' Souza. The NOC for extension of fishing jetty at Kharewado was obtained from MPT and the same was given to the state government. But the department was yet to take up works. He also wanted fisheries corporation to be set up in the state.

This would benefit the fishermen community in the state, D' Souza said adding that the proposal was in the pipeline but has not been implemented. If taken up it would help jetties get cold storages, toilets and illumination. Also prices of fish could be regulated and people get fresh fish. D'Souza also alleged that there were 3 Trawlers from Malpe detained by fisheries department last week. He said that in the past there were as many as 200 Trawlers who were fishing in Goan waters. They would even threaten fisheries department staff. But the fisheries department with the help of coastal police, has taken action on the Trawlers from Malpe who had been continuously fishing in Goan waters and along the shoreline. Watch.
