Vazri: 60’s village in 21st century Goa

Vazri village is beautiful. It is located right on the banks of the Valvanti river. But it is difficult to believe that it is part of present-day Sanquelim Municipality.

Here there is no government road. The only road that exists is one that has been built by the villagers themselves.

There is no bus service and school. And even though 60 years have gone by since liberation many don’t have toilets and have to defecate in the open. Watch these visuals.

Vazri village is a ward of the Sanquelim municipality. It has around 173 voters and a total of 12 Hindu families and 25 catholic families; a total population of around 300.

Locals say that they get assurances of development only at the time of elections. But these remain only assurance.

Ward councilor Dayanand Boryekar told Goa 365 that he will try to construct public toilets for those people who defecate in the open. And says he has put in a plan for sewerage.
