The Council for Social Justice and Peace and Goa Bachao Abhiyan on Wednesday demanded that all PDAs be scrapped as per the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments.

The GBA also wants that no new planning be done before the implementation of these amendments and the TCP amendment act of 2009.

The Council for Social Justice and Peace, a church body, also criticized what it called ‘an attempt of the Government to falsely drag in the Archbishop’s office into the issue’.

The GBA convenor Sabina Martins said that they would fight till this was implemented.

The 73rd and 74th amendments devolve power to plan developments of their neighbourhoods to the people themselves and decrease the power of the elected representatives and other centralized authorities.

GBA also questioned why the government was not implementing the TCP amendment act of 2009.

The state had been rocked by protests against villages like Parra and St Cruz being included in PDAs.

They were supposed to have a huge rally of 6th of April. However, this has been changed to a public meeting at Azad Maidan.
