Goans experience annular solar eclipse

26 Dec 2019 06:39 PM

Goans witnessed a rare phenomenon in the sky on Thursday morning -- the annular solar eclipse. It was a partial eclipse covering around 88 per cent of the sun.

The eclipse was caused as the moon came between the sun and the earth.

The eclipse started at four minutes past eight and was at its peak at 23 minutes past nine.

Around 250 enthusiasts gathered on the terrace of Junta House in Panaji where the observatory is located.

This was the last solar eclipse of the decade and the 5th solar eclipse of the year 2019.

People in South Goa viewed the eclipse at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao where Marathi Vidhnyan Parishad made arrangements for viewing.

As the moon is not able to cover the entire sun , a ring of fire is visible, hence it is called annular eclipse.
