Garbage dumped on roadside and stray dogs go hand in hand.

Besides being an eyesore and unhygienic, these garbage related stray dogs are a menace to traffic.

On Friday, a lady on a bike riding on the highway at Dharmapur tried to avoid a stray dog that suddenly crossed her path near a garbage pile.

As if this was not enough a young boy who was just behind her lost control and fell.

I totally agree with you that garbage dumped on road sides is a menace. This menace could have been avoided if proper garbage bins were provided and cleared at regular intervals. The public both residents and tourists are forced to discard the garbage on the roadside instead of carrying it with them to their homes or hotels. The world over, garbage bins are provided for people to dispose both their wet & dry wastes. I have no clue why Goa is an exception to garbage bins. As far as stray dogs (and cattle/cats) are concerned, I would disagree with you that they are a menace. In the absence of a comprehensive control program the strays are bound to multiply. We, as humans, have failed to provide them with proper shelter and food, thus forcing them to scrounge whatever they can salvage from the garbage to satisfy their hunger. Leave alone animals, I have even noticed beggars looking for something to eat from the garbage. Garbage strewn all over Goa is an eyesore and an opportunity for tourists to click click and show to their compatriots back home.
