Banning single use plastics is a step forward in Gandhi's thoughts: CM

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said it may not be possible to take all of Gandhiji's thoughts forward, but the government has taken one step in cleanliness and banned single use plastics. He said it is a three-step move : awareness, availability and avoidance.



The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary was observed  at Old Goa. The chief minister garlanded the statue of Mohandas Gandhi. This was followed by union  Ayush Minister Shripad Naik.  

Also present on the occasion were  Handicraft  chairman Pandurang Madkaikar, Ol Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar, former minister  Nirmala Sawant, ex-MLA Dharma Chodankar,  Zilla Panchayat members, panchayat members, other dignitaries and a large number of schoolchildren. 

The day also happens to be the birth anniversary of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The chief minister paid tributes to  him. He garlanded a  picture of Shastri.

 Mahatma Gandhi's and Lal Bahadur Shastri's  Jayantis were also observed at Ponda MLA Ravi Naik's office in Ponda. Congressmen paid floral tributes to  the departed leaders.

A cycle rally was also organised Vivekanand Primary School in Borim to underscore the importance of pollution free transport.

Congress Block of Mapusa too observed  Gandhi and Shastri Jayantis at its office where floral tributes were paid to the late leaders.

 In Quepem, BJP workers took out a rally to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastry. A large number of people including students took part in the rally.

  In Cancona, BJP organised a function to observe the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A large number of students took part in the rally.

 In Shiroda, local MLA Subhash Shirodkar organised a rally in which a large number of students took part.

 In Margao, Lions Club of Cancon,  Damodar College and Government College of Margao came together to carry out a cleaning drive  on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Cloth bags were also distributed on the occasion.

 In Dabolim , local MLA and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho organised a function and a rally to mark Gandhi Jayanti.
