Ore transportation at Mayem upsets locals, environmentalists

Environmentalists and farmers are up in arms over the ore transportation in Mayem village.



They say ore transportation of Chowgule mining company taking place by violating Supreme Court's order. They alleged that government machinery has failed to control illegal ore transportation.


Chowgule Mining company at Poirem in Mayem has started transportating ore. Blue Global Exports company has taken up the transport contract.


Local say that they are against under constant fear over speeding trucks. Traffic jam also take place due to narrow roads.


Mayem Sarpanch Kunda Mandrekar told Goa 365 that panchayat has given no permission to the company to transport ore through the village and company has not informed them about the same.


Farmers from Poirem-Mayem had blocked the trucks carrying ore on 17th May. They want the company to compensate them first and then transport the ore.


Later, Bicholim Mamletdar Pravinjay Pandit intervene and promised to solve the issue by convening a joint meet with Chowgule mining company and farmers. Watch the demands of farmers and clarification given by Mamletdar on the issue.


Environmentalist Ramesh Gawas says the ore transportation is being carried out by violating Supreme court's order.


Court has clearly stated ore transport or mining shouldn't be carried out by bothering villagers, is his contention.
