Minister Manohar Parrikar launched GoaMiles, Goa's First App based Taxi Service even as opposition from the entrenched taxi union erupted at the Daboli International airport.

This app, which is India's first Government initiated App-based taxi service comes in the aftermath of numerous complaints about the high rates charged by Taxis.

Taxi unions have protested various moves by the government to keep a check on the taxi transport system.

Efforts to enforce meters, speed governors or even the introduction of app-based taxi services like Uber or Ola.

Even as the app was being launched Goa Taxi Association held a protest at the Dabolim airport on Monday evening demanding that the app-based service should not have a counter there.

Members staged a sit-in protest at Dabolim airport even as police bandobast was deployed at the airport.
