Goa Mantris, MLAs self-appraisal by 77%

On the last day of Monsoon Assembly session the government introduced two bills seeking amendments in the acts to increase monthly salary & allowances of MLAs by 77%. The passage of the bill will burden the state treasury by Rs 6.60 crore per year.



There was no opposition when Chief Minister introduced two bills in the state assembly seeking amendments in the acts to increase monthly salary, daily allowance, constituency allowance and pension payable to members of the Goa Legislative Assembly and the council of ministers. 

According to the information the MLAs currently draw a lakh as their, If the bill is passed, the MLA will get almost Rs 1.70 lakh.  

The amount payable to each legislator for accommodation is currently Rs 1,500. This would double to Rs 3,000.

Besides it also seeks to amend Section 14 of the said act so as to increase the traveling allowance.

Currently traveling allowance payable to a member in lieu of accommodation/stay during his travel outside the state in the capacity of the committee member or in an official capacity is Rs 6,000. This is proposed to increase by Rs 7,500.
