Min says not possible to follow covid protocols even as PM hold review meeting

India reported more than 93,000 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in 2021. Last time India reported more than 90,000 cases were in the month of September last year. Our neighbour Maharastra cases are around 50,000 a day with an infection rate of 26%. Goa is seeing an infection rate of 10% with cases rising as testing increases. But a cabinet minister has clearly shown where the priority of the of the government is. So if the leaders say this why will the people follow?



Transport Minister Mauvin Godhino on Sunday said that social distancing is not possible during elections even as the Prime Minster is having review meetings to discuss the spiraling cases and Maharashtra is contemplating a total lockdown and hardening of curbs. India recorded a single-day jump of 93,249 COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours. Country also reported 513 deaths taking death toll to 1,64,623. The total cases reach  1.24 crore, while the active cases stand at 6,91,597. 

Maharashtra is the top contributor in the covid tally. The State recorded 49,447 cases out of which 9,000 plus cases reported in Mumbai and 10,800 cases on Pune. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has even warned that State could go into a lockdown as if this srge continues there will be no hospital beds in 15 days. Maharashtra is followed by Chhattisgarh 5,818 cases, Karnataka 4,373 cases, Delhi 3,567 cases, Tamil Nadu 3,446 cases, Uttar Pradesh 3,187 cases.   

Eighty five per cent of covid related deaths were reported from 8 states. Maharashtra has reported whooping 227 deaths followed by Punjab 49 deaths, Chhattisgarh 36, Karnataka 19, Madhya Pradesh 15, Tamil Nadu 14, Uttar Pradesh 14 and Gujarat 13. 

Meanwhile, vaccination drive in country is going on without any obstacles. India has administered vaccines to 7.50 crore people. In last 24 hours 30 lakh people were administered the vaccine.
