Though ammonia leak stops, locals are still gasping for breath

At 2:54 am. a tanker carrying Ammonia gas, proceeding towards Zuari Industries at Zuarinagar fell into a roadside ditch and overturned near SAG ground. Our reporter Hiru Mahale gets the exclusive ground report.

As gas started leaking from the tanker and people around the area living in colonies began to feel irritation in their eyes, some even began to suffocate.

The fire services & the police were immediately alerted.

People were immediately told to vacate their houses by covering their faces in wet cloth as a precautionary measure.

No casualties were reported, however, two elderly women were hospitalised.

Though the situation is now under control, the police have blocked the entire road from Chicalim junction to the airport.

Authorities have also sought the help of Navy.
