The MET department for the past three days has been consistently warning the fisher folks and the ports to stay safe but we have seen severe damage to the entire Goa coastline.

Number of shacks being damaged and over 500 fishermen are stranded at Vasco jetty. The government’s initial assessment of the damage is 20-30 lakh rupees.

But, this is likely to go up after a proper physical assessment will be conducted by North and South Collector’s.

Though, the winds will pass through in next 24 hours but we are about to show the actual intensity of the waves from the high sea.

These are the exclusive visuals from the rescue operations carried by the India Coastal Guards.

Also, take a look at the overall cyclone ockhi impact and the response from the government.

Revenue Minister Rohan Kaunte told reporters after a meeting of the state disaster management meeting that all grievances regarding damage have to be submitted to respective collectors within the next couple of days and the final assessment will be done within the next eight days.

The meeting chaired by chief minister Manohar Parrikar also decided that it would be termed as a natural calamity and not a state disaster given that only pockets in the state were affected by the cyclone which veered away from Goa. It is likely to make landfall in Gujarat.

Not just in Vasco, several fish trawlers are stranded at Betim Jetty. For now,  the fisher folks are waiting for the weather to clear out, that is possible in next 48 hours.
