Goa was hit with a major tragedy on Sunday, much stronger than the incessant rains. Five Goans were washed away at a waterfall in Karwar.



The water level suddenly rose and the tragedy occurred. Four women and one man from Raia village of Salcete taluka.

Total 50 people from Raia had gone for a picnic to Nagarmadi waterfall in Chendiya village.

It’s around 13 kilometers from the Karwar town across Goa-Karnataka border. Arvind Gunagi, reporter of Kannadamma newspaper from Karwar, told Goa365 that the tragedy occurred due to sudden rise in water level.

The police and fire brigade rushed to the spot and managed to fish out dead bodies of three women. They were still searching for two more till late evening.
