He also asks why Goa government is not following Karnataka system and charging the mining companies for the ore they hold in the lease.
The hearings of the Goa Foundation’s petition before the Supreme Court challenging the lease renewals of 2014 concluded on Tuesday. The judgement is yet to be delivered.
While informing about the status of the case on Wednesday, Dr Claude made this revelation.
The matter was heard over three weeks and has been reserved for judgement. The grant of leases to companies and leaseholders for mining had been challenged in the Supreme Court by the NGO.
There was also a separate petition by Sudeep Tamankar challenging the lease renewals.
Dr Claude also wants Goa to follow the Karnataka system. Charge the mining companies for the value of the ore in the leased out land and not merely stamp duties.
