Govt should compensate us, improve infrastructure: shack owners

09 Dec 2017 07:34 PM

Shack owners have demanded that the government compensate them for the damages suffered by them in the aftermath of the cyclone. They said that the compensation amount should at least equal to the fees that they are paying to the government.

Shack owners also defended themselves against the allegation that their shacks were too close to the sea saying that the government itself had asked them to move close to the sea because of   the need to keep a distance from the vegetation and the sand dunes.

They also alleged that the government had not done anything for them when they were in trouble due to the rising waters.

Shack owners wanted the government to improve infrastructure as well as a proper shack policy to get in better quality of tourists who would spend money.

They also alleged that the authorities were not in favour of locals and favoured outsiders in tourism related businesses.
