PWD employees reject Junta House; ‘discover’ it to be unsafe, even to sit

Junta House of Panaji has suddenly become completely unsafe for the government servants. That too when PWD employees are proposed to be shifted there.



This building is maintained by the PWD. They have become vocal Now. Because their Old Patto office is being shifted to Junta House.

The works to shift the office of Assistant Engineer Works Division from old premises at Patto to the Junta House are being undertaken on war footing.

The staff of this office is directed by the government to shift in new premises in Junta House on 15th November however they are not ready.

They say the building is not safe. They have even claimed it is unsafe for evacuation purposes in case major fire breaks out.

The claims are not entirely false.Goa 365 checked the status of the Junta House building.

Junta House is the oldest building in Panaji with highest number of government offices.

One of the lifts in the building where the office of Directorate of Panchayats is situated is not in working condition.

Although the works of maintenance and repair works of the Junta House annexe are carried out at the moment.

The bigger question still remains, is the old Portuguese-era building really safe?
