For Goa, it was like Bollywood movie. 5 armed men attempted to rob the Indian Overseas Bank at Verla- Canca on Friday evening.

However, alert locals managed to nab two while they were exiting the bank while three escaped with gold & cash.

The robbers arrived in a rickshaw, robbed the customers and fled after rouging up the bank manager.

They even took the box with the CCTV cameras while fleeing the bank.

It was a scene not witnessed often, at least in this state.

An armed robbery replete with firing, and local heroes saving the day. Alert locals managed to overpower the armed robbers using the weapons at hand, plain old fashioned daring mixed with a large dose of luck.

Two of the robbers who locals say are from UP were caught and trashed mercilessly before the police arrived.

The other three escaped through the fields in the ensuing melee.

Pistols were recovered from the robbers.

The robbers resorted to firing while escaping and one of the bullets hit and broke the back glass of a Maruti car.

Police from Mapusa and Anjuna were on the scene to try and get some clues from the chaos left behind at the bank.

Incidents of ATMs are being broken into almost on a regular basis.

And this time it is a bank.

A worrying sign for the state, locals told Goa 365
