Search in Sanvordem mishap suspended, 3 bodies found, 14 rescued

The search and rescue operations in the Sanvordem footbridge mishap were finally suspended on Friday evening after recovering 3 dead bodies from the Zuari river.



14 people were either rescued or they swam to the shore. Government would start the search only if they receive missing reports.


Till now, there are no such reports.


  The rescue operations resumed early morning on Friday.


The fully equipped National Disaster Response Team arrived at the site on Friday in the afternoon time. Coastal Police recovered the body of the person who had committed suicide on Thursday from the bridge.


The NDRF team will stay at the site till Saturday. Total 14 people who drowned were also rescued by all the teams.


The pathway extension of the old sanvordem bridge collapsed in the Zuari River on Thursday evening.


All the disaster management teams rushed to the site and continued their search operations till late night.


South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar were also present till late night at the site of incident.


One local boy Sulaiman Ghauri also rescued 2-3 persons who were drowning in the river.


These missing persons were rescued and sent to Hospicio hospital late in the Thursday night, later the severely injured ones were shifted to GMC Bamolim.
