it’s a horrifying story. The plight of a married woman, who was locked up in a 3x2 room, it seems over 10 long years in Candolim.

No bedding, no bathroom, no toilet facilities and not even clothes to wear.

Women’s Police station of Panaji moved into action and rescued her after Bailancho Saad made a police complaint in this regard.

Her name is Sunita Shirodkar Verlekar. Her brother and sister-in-law from Verlekar family do not deny the fact that she was locked up in this tiny room outside their house.

According to them, she suffers with mental illness and was uncontrollable. Thus they locked her up in this room. How many years? One says for six years, the other says for 16 years.

But neither she was provided basic facilities like bathroom or toilet nor clothes to wear. The police had to first provide her clothes to wear and then get her out. And this is the way the Verlekar family justifies their action.

A group of villagers brought this horrible condition of Sunita to the notice of Bailancho Saad. One volunteer also accompanied the police while rescuing her. The complaint was made by Sabina Martins of Bailancho Saad.
