Major Fire at Panaji Kadamba Bus Stand, RTO & KTC records destroyed

The week started with a huge tragedy as the premises of Kadamba Bus Stand Complex caught fire early Monday morning.



 The RTO office lost more than 50 percent of its records and has to be closed down for at least three days for emergency repairs. Several shops

Several shops in the ground floor in this complex were affected with a supermarket being almost completely destroyed.

 The fire broke out early morning in the premises of a super market located on the ground floor of the Bus stand. Then the fire spread to other parts including the offices located on the first floor of the building.

The Fire brigade responded to the call immediately and rushed to the Bus stand complex. Fire brigade personnel had to break open the shutters of the Super Market to get the fire under control.

This bus stand caters has more than 2000 buses departing from the bus stand with around 40,000 commuters using the KTC bus stand daily.

Then the fire spread to other parts including the offices located on the first floor of the building.

VO2: 50% of the Records in the office of Assistant Director of Transport located on the first floor are totally destroyed.

Transport Director Nikhil Desai informed that only records from 2009 onwards which are digitized were saved. The RTO office will remain closed for minimum 3 days for repair works.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Former MLA of Panaji Siddharth Kuncolienkar along with KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida and others visited the Bus stand complex and took stock of the situation.
