The Travel and Tourism Association has predicted a 50 % fall in charter flights arriving in Goa this season.

The reason: the Navy is not allowing morning landings on Saturdays and Sundays. Afternoons too are an issue as flights landings are restricted.

This create issues for charter flights but also other commercial flights as it leads to air traffic congestion at the Dabolim International Airport. Travel and Tourism

Travel and Tourism Association president Savio Messias said that they had expected a growth of 25 percent in incoming charter flights to Goa this season.

But the Navy’s increased usage of the airport even on Saturdays and Sundays which has made it difficult for the other flights operation at Dabolim.

Last year there were 988 chartered flights that landed, but this time it looks like there would be a drop of 50 per cent in chartered flight affecting the tourism sector.

The association members have appealed to the Chief Minister, the defence Ministry and the Civil Aviation department to resolve this issue.
