is a new controversy raising its head over former MLA and poet Vishnu Surya Wagh’s book SudirSukta because it’s selected for Goa Konkani Academy’s literary award. Bailancho Ekvott President Auda Viegas has filed two police complaints against this book.

The poems in the SudirSukta largely talk about the discrimination meted out by higher caste people against the downtrodden, which Wagh refers to as Sudir.

But Auda alleges that some of the poems in the book are abusive to women and also targets one particular community.

She has filed complaints at Panaji and Madgao police stations against Wagh as well as publisher ApurbaiPrakashan.

Freedom fighter Gurunath Kelekar as well as teacher Mangala Karapurkar have also raised their own objections.

According to Kelekar noted Marathi Dalit poet Namdev Dhasal also wrote such poets, but there is a difference.

Madgao police however have decided to proceed with the complaint only after reading the book and taking legal opinion.
