The feast of Saint Peter, the patron saint of the fisher folk was celebrated in the port town of Vasco on Thursday with traditional pomp and gaiety.

The fishing community from Khariwada, Non-Mon, Pixem-Dongri, Desterro and Baina decorated their fishing canoes with colourful balloons, coconut palms, flowers and other decorative items and ventured forth into the Arabian Sea as part of their annual tradition.

The youth jumped into the sea, after offering prayers. The parish priest of St Andrew’s Church, Fr Coutinho called upon Almighty God and St Peter to protect the fishermen when they venture on the high seas for fishing.
