Why not Girish the CM? asks Congress

It is obvious that the BJP-led government would collapse if chief minister Manohar Parrikar is defeated in the Panaji by-election.

In this background, the Congress has asked why their Panaji candidate Girish Chodankar should not be the next chief minister of the Congress-led coalition government.

chief minister Manohar Parrikar has represented Panji constituency for 23 years.

Now the Panaji bye elections contest looks like it could go down to the wire with the winner continuing as the chief minister or becoming the new chief minister given the tremors in government post elections if the status quo changes.

Senior Leader Ramakant Khalap has put forward Girish’s name as chief ministerial candidate which was echoed by desk in charge Dr Chella Kumar, though both said that ultimately the Legislature Party would decide.
