Why Govt of Goenkarponn didn’t celebrate Statehood Day?

30 May 2017 08:42 PM

Goa completed 30 years of gaining Statehood on 30th of May in 1987. But the new coalition government did not have a single official function.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar gave a vague reply for not celebrating it and also gave an excuse of Code of Conduct. But people from different strata reacted sharply when we met them.

Statehood was a result of a prolonged struggle for making Konkani official language and recognizing Goa as a State.

Goa gained statehood after facing direct central rule for 26 years as a Union Territory. Its Assembly seats increased from 28 to 40.

But no elected member seemed to be serious about this historic day. Even the new government speaks of Goenkarponn, but does not celebrate the Goa Statehood Day.

Watch this special report with reactions from the chief minister, Goa Forward minister as well other social activists.
