Goa Assembly is becoming richer day by day but shrinking in terms of educational qualification.

There are more MLAs having assets above 5 crore rupees but less MLAs who are graduates or post-graduates.

In fact we have now two out of 10 ministers who are SSC and one having studied 12th standard. And the number of MLAs having criminal charges is also rising.

Director of Association for Democratic Reforms Bhaskar Assoldekar has come out with the latest figures after election result and government formation.

And this is the profile of all the 40 MLAs and 10 ministers he presented on Friday.

If you  see this, the number of wealthy MLAs is increasing with every Assembly. In 2007, they were only 7 in the 40-member House.

Today, there are 27 MLAs having assets above 5 crore rupees. And the average assets of all the 40 MLAs are 11 crore rupees.

The richest among them is one of the youngest MLA of the BJP – Michael Lobo with assets of 55 crore rupees.

Next to him is the oldest MLA – Pratapsing Rane of the Congress with assets of 50 crores. And the third is a woman MLA – Jennifer Monseratte of the Congress – 31 crores.

More than half of the Assembly comprises of less qualified people. 18 MLAs are 12th pass or below, 5 are under-graduates and 17 are graduates or post-graduates.

And this is the list of MLAs or Ministers with a record of serious crimes registered against them.

They are Congress MLA Jennifer Monseratte, BJP MLA Michael Lobo, Goa Forward minister Vinod Palienkar, independent MLA and minister Govind Gaude, former Congress CM Digambar Kamat and NCP MLA Churchill Alemao.
