Respite for Vijai as Jose to be disqualified for Cong and GVP nominations

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai won the first battle on the last day of nomination as the Congress candidate Jose D’Silva will be disqualified

He also filed nomination as the Goa Vikas Party member. If he had contested, he would have split Vijai’s votes, especially of the ST community.

Did Congress play a double game in declaring its candidates and giving A and B form to Jose D’Silva? Because this is the official position Goa’s Congress vice president M K Shaikh told Goa 365 on Wednesday evening, after the nomination process had stopped.

But in reality, Jose Silva reached the Returning Officer with the A and B Forms issued by GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro and filed his nomination for the Congress. But perhaps he did not have confidence in his own party. He thus filed his nomination also with the A and B Forms issued by Goa Vikas Party President Lyndon Monteiro.

However, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navati said one candidate cannot be member of two political parties. Jose Silva would thus be disqualified.
