Parrikar to be CM on Tue with 8 ministers, 3 berths to be vacant

Manohar Parrikar has resigned as the defence minister and would be sworn in as Goa chief minister once again on Tuesday evening.

He is expected to induct only 8 ministers in the first phase, keeping 3 berths vacant. The Assembly session would be held next Monday to pass the confidence vote and elect the speaker. The annual budget may also be passed the same day.

The core committee of the party as well as the newly elected MLAs met in Panaji on Monday evening.

But there was no official briefing. However, the information we have gathered is that the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party,

Goa Forward and two independents would get two cabinet berths each. Also only two ministers of BJP, besides Parrikar.

The three more berths would be kept vacant. BJP national president Amit Shah and union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari will attend the swearing in ceremony, scheduled at 5.30 in the evening at Raj Bhavan.

And these are the ministers who would be sworn in.

From the BJP, Francis D’Souza and most likely Nilesh Cabral or Pramod Sawant.

Sudin Dhavalikar and Babu Azgaonkar from the MGP.

Vijai Sardesai and Jayesh Salgaonkar from Goa Forward.

And two independents – Rohan Khaunte and Govind Gaude.

Mauin Godinho would be the Speaker and Rajesh Patnekar the deputy speaker.

It was rumoured that Parrikar this time would contest from Mapusa instead of Panaji. But the possibility looks bleak if Francis is made the cabinet minister.

He says no proposal has come to him in this regard. In that case, Sidharth Kunkolkar will have to vacate his Panaji seat.

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo looked upset because he will be not made the minister. He left the meeting half way. This was his reaction.
