Parrikar expects to get elected unopposed from Panaji

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is expecting to get elected unopposed from Panaji.

One, because Congress is not finding a candidate to contest the by-poll.

Second, he expects the Congress to not field the candidate. And if they field, he feels he would be a namesake candidate.

Congress has failed on three counts to field a candidate.

First they tried Babush Monseratte. But he suddenly joined Goa Forward. Then they tried veteran lawyer Adv Surendra Desai. But he backed out.

Then came former Mayor Ashok Naik. He agreed initially, but then suddenly retracted last minute.

On this background, this is what Parrikar said while addressing his workers in Panaji on Monday late evening.

Ashok Naik had left the Bharatiya Janata Party long ago. And he told the media on Monday that he was willing to contest on Congress ticket to defeat Parrikar.

But he has still not given a strong reason why he withdrew. But Parrikar now claims that he withdrew because he is originally a BJP man.
