HC to decide on Vishwajeet disqualification plea, directs ECI on Valpoi by-poll

Everybody expected the high court to direct the petition of Vishwajeet Rane’s disqualification to the speaker’s office. But it didn’t happen.

The high court admitted the case to hear. And also directed the Election Commission of India to report to the court the date of Valpoi by-election. But the court rejected the plea to drop Vishwajeet as the minister.

Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane had quit soon after taking oath as the Valpoi MLA, joined the BJP and became the minister.

As he did not wait in the House for the trust vote, all the Congress MLAs as well as the Congress party had filed a disqualification petition against him for defying the party whip.

On Tuesday, the high court admitted the petition, but did not grant interim relief to drop Vishwajeet as the minister.

Looks like the court intends to dispose the petition as fast as possible. Congress spokesperson Adv Ramakant Khalap had taken initiative in filing the disqualification petition.
