Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has said that he would write to the fisheries department to ensure that the fishing ban be enforced strictly. There would be a ban on fishing from 1st of June.

Goa has a 105 kilometre coastline and fish curry rice is the staple food of Goans. But its fish catch is on the decline.

The state's fish production between July 2014 and June 2015 was 114,259 tons. It dropped to 96,189 tons between July 2015 and June 2016.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has been requested to carry out impact studies of LED fishing on fish resources.
