Cong says ‘Yes’, BJP says ‘No’ to Special Status for Goa

Congress is still promising Special Status to Goa, though they are not in power at the centre.

But centrally ruled Bharatiya Janata Party has ruled out special status. Special Status requires amendment to the constitution in the Parliament.

All India Congress Committee’s media head Randeep Singh Surjewala has assured to move an amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution to grant special status to Goa. How they will get it passed, he doesn’t say.

During Lok Sabha election, to-be-PM Narendra Modi had promised to grant special status to Goa while the Goa BJP had also assured it  during 2012 Assembly election. But after getting absolute majority in the Parliament, the BJP said it’s not possible. And defence minister Manohar Parrikar still plays the same tune.
