BJP MLA Carlos wants major share of Octroi for Vasco, Govt non-committal

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has demanded at least half of the revenue collected from the octroi duty in one Mormugao taluka.

When one Vasco city collects over 10 crore rupees, the BJP MLA asks why only one crore is given to the municipality.

Urban Development MinisterFrancis D’Souza has not given any firm assurance on the demand made by his own party MLA.

According to the minister, the government collects the octroi from everywhere and then distributes it equitably to all the municipalities and panchayats.

But Almeida wants major share of it to those areas, from where it is collected. He had raised the issue during Question Hour.
