Assembly session of 32 MLAs, with Dhawalikars in the Opposition

27 Feb 2017 09:02 PM

Neither the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party nor the opposition is in favour of the special Assembly session held on 28th of February

But the Governor would come, address the Assembly and the session would be over.

Merely a formality when the members don’t know whether they would sit again in this Assembly after 11th of March.

The Assembly session would be held with only 32 out of 40 MLAs, with 7 members resigned as the MLAs to contest on other party tickets or as independents.

Deputy Speaker Vishnu Wagh is in the hospital. And Speaker Anant Shet has not even contested. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar himself admits that it is a meaningless exercise but a legal requirement.

The bulletin issued by the Legislature Secretariat states that Governor Mridula Sinha, in her address, would only spell out the causes that led to summoning of the session.

Not the achievements and policies of the Government. Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane has criticized the whole process of deciding the business even without calling a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee.

But some Congress MLAs like Alex Reginald Lourenco are trying to raise some issues after the Governor’s address.

The only interesting part of the session is that the Dhawalikar brothers of the MGP would be seen sitting in the opposition, almost after 10 years, since 2007. They have withdrawn support to the BJP government.
