Mining truckers foil Vedanta attempt to start ore transport, stir continues

06 Nov 2017 08:50 PM

Thousands of mining truck owners assembled outside Vedanta’s Codli mine and foiled their attempt to start ore transport from Monday.

The talks failed and their agitation would continue.

Even the BJP and MGP MLAs have warned their own government.

On the other hand, Bicholim truckers are demanding special rate.

And in Salcete, the truckers have threatened to go to court if government cancels their registration.

Vedanta had asked for police protection on Monday to start ore transport from Codli mine to Amona jetty.

But over 1500 truckers assembled outside the gate of Codli mine and did not allow the company even to bring outside trucks.

The South Goa truckers have also claimed that local MGP MLA Dipak Pavaskar has fully supported them.

They want diesel at the rate of 52 rupees and transportation rate at 12 rupees 50 paise per tonne per kilometre.

But Vedanta officials are still not agreeing to their demand.

BJP MLA of Bicholim Rajesh Patnekar has also become aggressive.

He has warned Bicholim deputy collector of creating law and order problem if outside trucks are brought on Bicholim mine.

They are demanding more rate only on the inside mining road, which is muddy and bumpy.

The Salcete truck owners have altogether a different demand.

They are not pressing for a particular rate, but to take all their trucks for transportation.

And they are also angry because Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has threatened to cancel their registration.

They want to pull him to the court.
