The traditional annual Ashtam fair of Panaji is in a state of uncertainity. Because Corporation of the City of Panaji has warned the vendors to remove their stalls by Thursday.

The reason given is a court ban on holding such fairs on the footpaths. But the Corporation has still not decided the alternate site. The fair lasts for only ten days.

According to the CCP the fair owners had not sought any permissions to hold the fair. Officials also said that there were court orders against giving permissions to hold fairs on footpaths.

However, stall owners are adamant that that they have the permissions and they have made payment for the stalls.

The stall owners had begun putting up their stalls before the CCP workers with police protection began demolishing them on Wednesday morning.

Members of All Goa FairStall Corporation have stated on Tuesday that this year let them do their business.

From next year, they don’t even want to come to Panajito put up stalls. They also said that if the municipality comes to break their stall they will stand in front of the bulldozer.
