The Fishermen community from Khariwado along with members of Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott on Wednesday demanded action against MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar for taking up illegal dredging without obtaining an EC clearance.

They said that the apex vourt dismissed the MPT’s appeal against the NGT order on dredging.

They have also opposed the Vasco bay development.

The fishermen of Vasco had filed a case against MPT’s dredging activity with the National Green Tribunal.

The NGT had granted stay on the dredging work.

The MPT then appealed to the Supreme Court for vacating of the stay. The Supreme Court however dismissed the MPT’s appeal.

Meanwhile president of Old Cross Fishing Canoe Owners society Custodio D‘Sousa has opposed development of  Vasco  bay plan by MPT.

He said the fishermen community will not allow the project to become a reality as they would then be left with insufficient beach area.
