Official Language Director Dr Prakash Vazarikar has shown the path to the unemployed Goan youth, by fighting for the official language Konkani, even in his personal capacity.

He has won a major battle with nationalized bank, which was appointing people in Goa, who cannot speak Konkani.

The Canara Bank he fought with has now agreed to recruit people knowing Konkani at the public counters.

Konkani is in the 8th schedule of the Constitution since 1992. And the central government follows a three-language formula.

English, Hindi and the local official language. Means Konkani in Goa.

As per the law, all the offices of the central government and its autonomous bodies as well as nationalized banks HAVE TO appoint people at public counters, knowing Konkani.

But no bank in Goa follows the rule.

Official Language Director Dr Prakash Vazarikar, in his personal capacity, raised a battle in this regard at his Bicholi branch of Canara bank when the bank employee refused to talk to him in Konkani.

DrVazrikar then approached the higher authorities of the bank, by writing a letter in Konkani.

The bank not only acted, but replied to him in Konkani.

Meanwhile, the Women and Child Development Department has rectified its blunder.

It has issued a fresh advertisement on Friday for 14 posts, making knowledge of Konkani essential and Marathi desirable.

Gujarati language has been deleted. The old advertisement had Konkani and Marathi desirable. Gujarati was also included.

The interviews are also postponed  to 21st November.
