Goa should argue about sanctuaries to stop Mhadei diversion: Kerkar

Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan Secretary Rajendra Kerkar feels that Goa should strongly push forward the point of wild life sanctuaries to stop Karnataka’s project of diverting waters of Mhadei river to Malaprabha before the tribunal.

Kerkar is the first environmentalist who exposed the secret plans of Karnataka and woke up Goa’s politicians in defence of Mhadei river.

We call it Mandovi in Panaji. The matter has now reached before the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal.

He feels Goa has a better chance to win the case, provided we push the argument of sanctuaries existing in Goa as well as Karnataka from where they want to divert the water by digging a canal.

Kerkar also points out that Karnataka is continuing its construction work despite the courts prohibiting the southern state from doing it.

Kerkar has also demanded that Karnataka’s witness before the tribunal – A K Gosain - should be removed from the committee set up by the central environment ministry for the Western Ghat.
