Don’t interfere, constitute Council to decide Lit Award issue: Writers

21 Oct 2017 06:55 PM

Veteran Konkani writers and leaders have demanded to constitute the general council and leave the decision of literary awards to them, not the government.

They have also strongly opposed the government decision to scrap all the 32 awards because of the controversy over one or two categories.

These demands came forth during the debate Rannmalem held on Goa365.

The panel included former vice chairman of Konkani Academy Dr Tanaji Halarnkar, Konkani Bhasha Mandal President Chetan Acharya and poet Sanjiv Verenekar, who had opposed giving literary award to Vishnu Wagh’s controversial poetry collection Sudirsukt.

All 3 panellists had a heated debate on other issues, but agreed upon these two issues: scrapping all the awards and constituting new council.

Watch these highlights.
